Australia made a solid start with David Warner and Matt Renshaw scoring 70 for the first wicket before Warner fell to Mohammad Amir.by lbw
Usman Khawaja fell soon after leaving Australia to 75 for 2 ball by yasir shah caught the skipper misbah ul haq
Renshaw kept going and scored a 125-ball 71 and added another 76 with Steve Smith give th the Aus strong position
There was more trouble for Pakistan when Amir hobbled off the field for some time after injuring his knee while fielding at third man.
Steve Smith struck his 16th Test ton to lead Australia to a strong position.
Peter Handscomb ended the day unbeaten on 64 and scored 137 with Smith for the fourth wicket. They took Australia to 288 for 3 at the end of the first day.
